Aspire One Is Back!!!
After a couple of weeks without my netbook, I’m back in the saddle! I sent the unit off for repair after a mysterious failure just a bit over two weeks ago. On Monday afternoon, I received my Aspire One back from Acer functioning like nothing ever happened. I was pretty concerned about getting warranty support since I had opened the device to upgrade the RAM (which validates the warranty, I am sure), but they didn’t ask and I didn’t tell.
Many thanks to the people who contacted me offering support suggestions on breathing some life back into my computer. In the end, Acer ended up replacing the motherboard though, so in my case it was a hardware failure. I wish I knew what caused the problem though. If it was something that I did I would like to avoid repeating the mistake (the netbook was plugged into an iGo universal power adapter when it died last time).
By the way, the very first thing I did when I got the unit back was to open it back up and upgrade the RAM again. Am I tempting fate? :^)

I loved my first Aspire One til the day– 1 month into ownership — when I got the fatal black screen when I turned it own. No, it had never run hot & I had never opened it up.
Sent it back to the manufacturer ; was told the return would be 7-10 days. called on the tenth only to be told that they had pulled the hard drive but also needed to replace the motherboard & one was not available…. on back order… no idea when it would come in.
I fought it all the way up the ladder, but they offered me a refurbished one if they had one (they did not). Or I could wait til no-one-knew when and get my old one now refurbished with two months+ gone from the warranty. Finally they offered a refund (which I still haven’t seen one month later).
Since I hadn’t been able to find another netbook whose keyboard I could use, I convinced myself it was just a fluke… and bought another one….
which black screened one hour ago.
HELP!
I love the AA1 except for the minor detail that it appears to be a one-month wonder.

Thanks for your feedback on Aspire One. First time I’ve heard about this. Didn’t know that Acer treats customers like that?
