I have pretty much settled on purchasing an Acer Asire One, but have been frustrated with the lack of supply. I have been keeping an eye on Amazon because I have some gift certificates from work for that particular vendor. This morning I received a notice that they have the Aspire One (XP version) back in stock, but was shocked by the price: $499.
You don’t need to be a MBA grad to understand that tight supply lends itself to pricing premiums, but $150 over MSRP??? I am sorry, but I’m not purchasing one of these netbooks for $499 – I would definitely go with the MSI Wind (or heaven forbid a full laptop) for only a few dollars more. I guess this is a testament to the fact that these netbooks are HOT!
go to microcenter.com see if they have it in your local store. I bought one for $349.99 plus $28 tax. Bestbuy also has them at MSRP.
I love my AA1 with 1G memory and 120G hard drive. I pack a lot of stuff on it. It’s great if you have WiFi access, but in places you don’t, I packed a lot of e-books on it.
Waiting for the 6-cell battery.
I have some thoughts on AA1 on my blog http://jiangningtang.spaces.live.com
Jiang, I checked out your site and it looks like you’re doing some of the same kinds of things I want to do with one. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Visual Studio 2008 would run on it – how’s performance on that app?
That sucks. Especially after they just dropped the MSRP by $50. Hope you find one soon! Patience, Grasshopper!
I just installed VS 2008, haven’t got time to really see how it compiles and how intellisense works on it. I am not going to use it as a dev machine. I installed Linqpad to learn Linq on it. Linqpad runs great. I will try to do some load test on it; will let you know.
Josh, you know that this grasshopper is not good with the patience!!!
What are you talking about? I’ve been pressuring you to buy an iPhone and a Mac for HOW long now, and you haven’t caved yet!
True, true.
I saw that Beach Camera (go figure) through Amazon had one unit in stock this afternoon at $399, so I rushed and bought it. I couldn’t bring myself to splurge for expedited shipping though, so I’m hoping to have it late next week.
