Upgrading the RAM in My Q1

July 30th, 2006

Inspired by Kevin Tofel, I opened the case on my Q1 on Friday to upgrade the RAM. I installed a 1 GB DIMM and the process was a breeze. I have found that I can leave more applications running now without any performance degradation, but overall, the change is fairly subtle. Kudos to Kevin for his pioneering effort – His pictures and step-by-step procedure took all the fear out of the upgrade.

  1. Glad the upgrade went flawlessly for you Brian! If you have any questions or discoveries about the new Q1, give me a shout. Although the UMPC devices aren’t nearly as powerful as many other devices available today, isn’t it totally empowering to have Windows XP Tablet Edition in such a small package? You can run Vista on the Q1 as well, but it’s a little sluggish. Hmm…I pulled my Vista partition off about a month ago….maybe the 1 GB of RAM will make it more usable. OK, I feel another project comin’ on! ;)

  2. We demand pics! ;-)

Seriously, though, that’s got to be a nice upgrade. Glad you were able to get it done. Now I’m even more jealous!

I haven’t been up to anything today. I can’t be bothered with anything recently. Nothing seems worth thinking about. I haven’t gotten anything done recently, but oh well. Not much noteworthy going on worth mentioning.
