We just picked up a Core Duo laptop for my wife late last week and I cannot get over how fast it is! The dual core processor has kicked butt (that’s a technical term) on every task I’ve thrown at it. Everything from fast boot times to lightning fast digital photo editing has made me as happy as a clam. The system is a delight to use from a performance standpoint and has exacerbated what has become a persistent annoyance with my Tablet PC.
My IBM X41 Tablet PC is my primary computing device and probably sees 75% of my computer time. I absolutely love it except for the system performance. From Day 1, the system has felt sluggish and always a bit disappointing when the system is under load (or even relatively idle if I have a lot of apps open). To be fair, I don’t know how much of the slowness is due to system specs versus the burdened IT-installed operating system. All I know is that I find myself waiting for my computer way more than I want to.
What I need is the best of both of these worlds. A Core Duo tablet would provide all of the processing power I need without sacrificing the battery life I get from the Pentium M in my X41. So the question becomes: which of the few models available do I start dreaming about?
Oh, did I tell you about the Core 2 Duo processors I’ve been playing with at work?
